Gradational compression is built into the instrument rather than into the surgeon: the jaw closes in stages, giving fluid time to leave the tissue before the staples form. Thick tissue is handled by waiting, not by squeezing harder.
Articulation runs through eleven detented positions to a maximum of 45° left and right, and one black firing handle both clamps and releases, so the instrument can be driven with a single hand while the other keeps the field.
